Brighton Recreational Centre Limited
Also known as:
Brighton Rec Centre
Notes:
The Brighton Recreation Centre was built in 1968, however it was only in 1979 that a group of local citizens formed the Brighton Recreational Centre Ltd as a not for profit community entity to manage the centre. From 1979 until August 2021 a range of programs were offered to the community including basketball, volleyball, fitness classes, childcare, art and craft programs, squash, and the core program of gymnastics. In August 2021 the centre was significantly damaged as a consequence of a fire that resulted in the closure of the facility, and the decision by the City of Bayside to build a new facility on the site at 93 Outer Crescent, Brighton. The centre is now scheduled to reopen to the public in January 2024 with the new facility comprising 6 multi purpose rooms, a 600m2 gymnasium and pottery room. Programs that will be available will include gymnastics, arts and crafts, early years programs, adult fitness classes, holiday programs, birthday parties, as well as other activities that can be offered in response to the needs of the community. Our Vision is To be the recreational centre of choice, by offering diverse programs and services that support inclusiveness, growth and positivity, allowing everyone to feel more connected to the local community.

The Australian Government acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, water, culture and community. We pay our respects to the Elders both past and present.
