The collapse of the Hobart Bridge in 1974 led to the establishment of a small primary school on the Eastern Shore, initially in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and then to land at Sherwood Lodge. Friends' Eastern Shore School/Sherwood closed at the end of 1986.
