Shire Of Chittering Administration Centre

On 1 July 1961 all Roads Boards became Shires, so on 8 July 1961 all serving Roads Board members were sworn in as Shire of Chittering Councillors. On 1 July 1961 the Chittering Road Board changed to become the Shire of Chittering. New Shire Chambers were erected in Bindoon and opened by the Minister for Local Government, the Hon. L. A. Logan MLC on 17 April 1963. In c.1990 the building was extended with a new Council Chamber room and library.

The formation of the Capel Roads Board in 1907, the reserve was formed for a road board office site in 1906, and vested in the Roads Board in January 1907. The roads board office was built in 1926. In 1957, extensions to the Roads Board Office, as well as the construction of a brick strong room took place, before the Shire was formed in 1951, and relocated later in the 1960s.
